4TH GENERATION TERM CONTRACT FOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SCOTTISH TRUNK ROAD NETWORK – NORTH WEST UNIT A85 CONNEL TO KILMARONAIG – INSTALLATION OF VEHICLE SAFETY BARRIER

Transport Scotland have been working to improve road safety on the A85 and propose to install sections of vehicle safety barrier along the A85 between Connel and Kilmaronaig. The enclosed location plan shows the extents of the safety barrier installations.

The sections of new and replacement barriers will protect errant road users from roadside hazards, which include poles and the adjacent watercourse. Warning signage will also be installed on the approaches to the bends in the coming months. These road safety improvements to provide vehicle safety barriers involve an investment of £150,000.

The works to install the vehicle safety barriers are due to start on Monday 10th January 2022 and take up to 4 weeks to complete. These works will take place between Monday to Friday from 08:00-18:00 with no weekend working planned. Due to the nature of the works there will be lane closures involving temporary traffic signals along with a temporary 30mph speed limit. As the works will involve safety barrier installation, excavations and result in machinery being left on site outside of the working times, traffic signals may require to remain in place outwith working hours. These will be removed where practicable and where safety to road users is not compromised. It is anticipated that there will be minimal journey delays to users.

These essential works will improve road safety along this section of the A85 for road users for many years to come. Strict Covid protocols will be in place to ensure site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Should you have any comments relating to the works or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Naman Saeed, Strategic Road Safety Engineer, by email at the following address NWConsultation@bearscotland.co.uk or by post to BEAR Scotland, Inveralmond Industrial Estate, BEAR House, Inveralmond Rd, Perth PH1 3TW.

Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland wish to thank the community and users of the A85 in advance for their patience whilst these road safety improvements are progressed.
Yours faithfully
Kevin McKechnie
